OPTIWALL is a high-security aluminium wall capping designed to detect intruders on perimeter walls. It is easily retrofitted to any existing wall or parapet and it blends seamlessly with modern architecture, while upgrading the aesthetic of more traditional designs.
It integrates with any existing alarm panel or directly activates local devices such as floodlights and sounders. Engineered for accuracy, it is not affected by environmental factors and ignores small animals such as birds and cats.
Operating principle
OPTIWALL uses an appropriately layered optical fiber under the metal capping that continuously monitors the applied weight. Consequently, it can sense any excess load, triggering an alarm when a predetermined condition is met.
Superior immunity to false alarms
OPTIWALL offers a high Probability of Detection while maintaining superior immunity to false alarms. While extreme, rare environmental factors –such as severe wind gusts– could theoretically force the capping into triggering the system, this is extremely rare in practical applications.
The system is not affected by adverse weather and ignores small animals such as birds and cats. The detection algorithm is fully customizable, with configurable parameters for both weight and duration, and is normally adjusted to trigger at 10-15 kg.
Tailored fit
As each wall has its own unique shape and dimensions, the capping panels are prepared specifically for each project, according to on-site measurements. Initially, a technician carries out a survey to measure all walls requiring protection. The exact cost is then calculated and the panel designs are sent for manufacturing.
The cappings are fabricated from aluminium and powder-coated to the desired color. Other materials or finishes are available upon request.
Installation
Installation and commissioning do not require special knowledge in fiber optics. Plastic optical fiber is easy to handle and technicians familiarize themselves quickly with the simple procedures involved.
All installation work is done using simple hand tools; there is no need for extra fiber optic instruments. The system does not use optical connectors — the optical fiber is inserted directly into receptacles at the processors. The light travelling through the optical fiber is eye-safe, visible green light, which greatly simplifies installation tasks.
The processor has on-board optical power metering and intuitive LED indications. Sensitivity can be adjusted by a mini rotary switch on the device or fully customized using a laptop. The processor performs fully automatic calibration at startup and during operation without user intervention.
